The Plataforma Lusófona em Investigação Clínica e Inovação Biomédica (PLICIB) is an initiative by AICIB, supported by FCT and co-funded by Global Health EDCTP3. Its main goal is to promote a proactive intervention of the Portuguese scientific community in Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) and neighboring countries.
The PLICIB provides executive and financial support to the establishment of human and infrastructural capacity-building efforts in clinical research and biomedical innovation, as well as in the areas of ethics, regulation, and certification, targeting Research and Clinical Practice Units in PALOP.
The Partnership between Europe and Developing Countries for Clinical Trials (EDCTP) was created with the aim of accelerating the clinical development of new or improved health technologies for the identification, treatment, and prevention of neglected and poverty-related infectious diseases, including (re)emerging diseases.
EDCTP funds activities, such as PLICIB, to develop research capacities in Africa, supporting researchers' careers and strengthening national health research systems.
The PLICIB aims to be a catalyst program for a proactive intervention of the Portuguese scientific community in PALOP and neighboring African countries. Through an integrated and collaborative approach to funding opportunities stemming from global, European, national, and regional schemes, the ultimate goal of PLICIB relates to the human and infrastructural capacity-building and certification in clinical research and biomedical innovation, as well as in ethics and regulation, of research and clinical practice units in PALOP.
