The APDP, Portuguese Diabetes Association, is a non-profit organization, being the oldest diabetes association in the world (founded in 1926) and a senior member of the IDF - International Diabetes Federation.
The APDP works to defend and raise awareness of the rights of people with diabetes, as well as providing healthcare services (through a specialized clinical unit), training and education, research, and social support.
Furthermore, in 2009, the APDP was recognized as the first IDF International Education Center in the world.
The activities of the APDP include conducting clinical trials, research projects, and community intervention projects funded by national and international entities, focusing on diabetes and other related diseases, including pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
