Setúbal Hospital Center

The Setúbal Hospital Center (CHS) was established following the publication in the Diário da República of Decree-Law No. 233/2005, dated December 29, and results from the merger of the São Bernardo Hospital (HSB) with the Orthopedic Hospital Sant’Iago do Outão (HOSO).

It is a corporate entity of a public nature, endowed with administrative, financial, and property autonomy. The applicable legal regime is that of public business entities and their respective statutes, operating in accordance with the framework of the National Health Service (SNS) and the terms established in the Internal Regulation of the institution.

The CHS has the mission "to promote health for all citizens within the scope of the responsibilities and capacities of the hospitals that comprise it, providing specialized health care, respecting the dignity of patients, and fostering the professional development of its staff within a framework of quality, efficiency, and organizational effectiveness."

The CHS is organized in a departmental logic (Surgery, Medicine, Anesthesiology, Women and Children, Psychiatry and Mental Health, Locomotor System, and Complementary Means of Diagnosis and Therapy), supported by the Medical Action Support Services and General Support and Logistics.

The healthcare activities carried out by this hospital unit are developed complementarily with other hospital units located in the Setúbal Peninsula – Garcia de Orta Hospital and Barreiro Montijo Hospital Center, and in the domain of primary healthcare, in coordination with the Arrábida Health Centers Group.

In terms of its area of influence, the CHS is the hospital reference for:
