Professor Doctor Fernando Fonseca Hospital (HFF)
The Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca Hospital (HFF) serves as a first-line hospital for approximately 550,000 residents of the Amadora and Sintra municipalities. The Institution engages in care services as well as research, teaching, and pre- and post-graduate training activities.
The Hospital’s mission is to provide personalized and specialized healthcare throughout a person’s life cycle, in collaboration with primary and continuing care services, as well as with other hospitals integrated into the National Health Service network. It has a functional capacity of 789 beds, with particular emphasis on the presence of an Operating Block containing 11 rooms.
In addition to the emergency services available at the Hospital (General Emergency, Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency, and Pediatric Emergency), HFF also offers the population a Basic Emergency Service located in the parish of Algueirão - Mem Martins.
The Clinical Research Unit (UIC) was established in March 2018 and incorporates fundamental operational concepts aligned with the institution’s strategic objectives. The UIC is characterized by a multidisciplinary team responsible for ensuring scientific rigor in the planning of presented studies, adherence to good clinical practices by researchers, and negotiation of contracts funded by external sponsors. The mission of the UIC is to promote high-quality clinical research sustainably and systematically, using standards that value structured knowledge through the management of interfaces associated with Research, Development, and Innovation, while complying with applicable ethical and legal provisions, to benefit the Hospital, Community, Patients, and Families/Caregivers. Its vision is to be a benchmark in promoting best practices in hospital clinical research and to consolidate a transversal scientific culture within the institution.
