Local Health Unit Alto Ave

The Alto Ave Local Health Unit (ULSAAve), located in the city of Guimarães, provides specialized healthcare services in a direct area of influence that reaches about 400 thousand people.

Its mission is to deliver the best healthcare services to the public it serves, with high levels of competence, excellence, and rigor, as well as to encourage pre- and post-graduate training and research, respecting the principles of humanization and fostering pride and a sense of belonging among all its employees. Our vision is to be an example in healthcare provision at a national and international level, with a perspective of sustainable growth, commitment, adaptability, and differentiation. We rely on approximately 1900 professionals who give their best every day for the benefit of the population they provide healthcare services to.

Since 2018, the Academic and Training Center (CAF) encompasses the entire structure of training, education, post-graduation, and clinical research, dedicating a broad scope of functions and activities to it.

The Clinical Research Unit of CAF promotes initiatives that enable the advancement of Investigator-Initiated Research, as well as the acquisition and development of Clinical Trials from different sponsors.

The Training Center, accredited by the Ministry of Health since 1999, offers specialized training actions aimed at equipping its professionals with nationally and internationally recognized technical competencies and skills.

The link between ULSAAve and various university and educational structures allows for a progressive involvement in the training of new healthcare professionals in different areas. Cultivating this function values not only healthcare professionals as trainers but also the central importance of ULSAAve in the SNS and the network of institutions associated with Education.
