São João University Hospital Center
The São João University Hospital Center aspires to be a benchmark in providing healthcare services at a national and international level, with a perspective of sustainable growth, commitment, a sense of change, and differentiation, aiming to create value for all its audiences and becoming the reference brand in the healthcare sector.
The mission of the São João University Hospital Center (CHUSJ) is based on three main pillars: clinical care, education, and research.
Clinical trials are a highly relevant activity for CHUSJ, which aims to offer its patients the possibility of early access to innovative therapies, while also contributing to society at large by collaborating in the process that establishes the safety and efficacy of new treatments.
The São João University Hospital Center (CHUSJ) has a coverage area extending from the northernmost region of the country to the central region, being the reference healthcare unit (primary and secondary) for about 3 million people, primarily around 330,000.
CHUSJ's mission is to provide the best healthcare, with high levels of competence, excellence, and rigor, promoting pre- and post-graduate training and research, always respecting the principle of humanization and fostering pride and a sense of belonging among all professionals.
Its vision is to be the example in healthcare provision both nationally and internationally, with a perspective of sustainable growth, commitment, a sense of change, and differentiation, aiming to create value for all its audiences and becoming the reference brand in the healthcare sector.
The celebration of CHUSJ's fiftieth anniversary marked a renewal of institutional culture that involved, in addition to its infrastructural redevelopment, a shift towards the use of new technologies to enhance user contact, resource management, and care activities.
The technological advancements in healthcare services provided, their management, and the institution's interaction with its target audience have been reflected in the management indicators presented for several consecutive years and recognized through acknowledgments of the quality of care activities as evidenced in various annual rankings.
Pursuing innovation and service excellence is a constant concern that gives rise to distinguishing projects in numerous areas of CHUSJ's intervention, ranging from research to care activities. CHUSJ prioritizes articulation and close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto in areas of pre- and post-graduate training, scientific research, and clinical activities, under the terms outlined in the Collaboration Protocol endorsed by the Ministries of Health and Science, Technology, and Higher Education, as well as the applicable legislation for Academic Clinical Centers.
In carrying out its activities, CHUSJ and the professionals who make up its team are guided by the following values and principles:
