Western Lisbon Hospital Center (CHLO)
Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental (CHLO) is composed of three hospitals in the western region of Lisbon: Egas Moniz Hospital, São Francisco Xavier Hospital, and Santa Cruz Hospital, which together offer specialized care across all areas of medicine. Clinical and translational research are considered priorities in our mission alongside excellence in clinical care. Patients are regularly invited to participate in observational studies and clinical trials, allowing access to innovation and specialized care. In fact, patients represent, more than customers, real partners in the process of clinical research. Good clinical practice principles have been disseminated across all departments of the center, and medical doctors who begin residency undergo mandatory clinical research training. A longstanding relationship with Nova Medical School established a partnership with Nova CRU that assures Clinical Coordination in the different departments.
Departamento de Investigação Clínica is responsible for organizing all procedures related to clinical research, including:
Promoting, monitoring, and disseminating studies and research projects conducted at the center
Submitting all clinical study and project applications to the Administration Board and the Hospital Ethics Committee
Supporting all investigator-driven clinical research projects, including financial administration and management of external audits
Assisting investigators with all research activities, including feasibility, study visits, data entry, and query resolution
Supporting the process of documentation collection for study submissions and completion of financial agreements
Encouraging the establishment of research groups, including interaction with fundamental investigators aiming at translational research
Stimulating national and international institutional scientific cooperation, as well as assisting in establishing protocols with external entities
Acting as a consultant to the Administration Board on all clinical research matters, including advising on financial support and research grants/prizes
