District Hospital of Santarém, EPE

The Santarém District Hospital, EPE (HDS) is a district, public, specialized hospital, with universal access, administrative, financial, and asset autonomy, integrated into the National Health Service (SNS), under the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Tejo Valley (ARSLVT).

The current organizational model of the Hospital is based on a departmental philosophy that includes:

General Inpatient Medicine Department, Surgical Department, Women and Children's Department, Psychiatry and Mental Health Department, Non-COVID Intensive Care Unit, COVID Intensive Care Unit.

Non-COVID Medical-Surgical Emergency Service General Emergency, Pediatric Emergency, Obstetrics/Gynecology Emergency.

COVID Medical-Surgical Emergency Service General Emergency, Pediatric Emergency, Obstetrics/Gynecology Emergency.

Surgical Suites Central Operating Room, Outpatient Surgery, Minor Surgery Rooms in Outpatient Consultations.

Complementary Diagnostic and Therapeutic Means Pathological Anatomy, Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Imaging, Immunohematology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Clinical Pathology, Pulmonology.

The departments include the following Services:

Medicine Department Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, Clinical Hematology, Infectiology.

Surgical Department General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Urology.

Women and Children's Department Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology.

Psychiatry and Mental Health Department Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry Unit, Psychology Unit.

The HDS provides health care to a resident population of approximately 185,000 inhabitants distributed across the municipalities of Almeirim, Alpiarça, Cartaxo, Chamusca, Coruche, Golegã, Salvaterra de Magos, Santarém, and Rio Maior, in an area of 3,500 km². In addition to these municipalities, the Hospital also offers care to populations from other municipalities in the District in specialties that have seen significant technical and technological development at the Hospital, such as Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Infectiology, Psychiatry, and Oncological Radiotherapy. The population distribution in the Hospital's area of influence shows a marked rural dispersion composed of very aged populations.
