Hospital de Vila Franca de Xira (HVFX) was inaugurated in April 2013. This health unit constitutes a Public Corporate Entity (EPE) integrated into the National Health Service.

It provides healthcare services to approximately 250,000 people from the municipalities of Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Azambuja, Benavente, and Vila Franca de Xira and has basic, intermediate, and specialized departments offered through inpatient and outpatient care by highly qualified multidisciplinary clinical teams aimed at providing excellence in healthcare services, supported by cutting-edge technological equipment.

With a commitment to Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, the Vila Franca de Xira Hospital has consistently been recognized as one of the best hospitals in the country by SINAS - National Health Assessment System, promoted by the Health Regulatory Entity, and also by "TOP 5 - Hospital Excellence" promoted by the clinical benchmarking multinational IASIST, which has recognized the hospital as one of the top three in its comparison group.

Accredited since 2014 by the Joint Commission International (JCI), the most prestigious accreditation organization in healthcare worldwide, Vila Franca de Xira Hospital is also Certified by SGS Certification Entity in Quality Management, Environment, and Occupational Health and Safety.

Vila Franca de Xira Hospital has over 1,400 employees, including doctors, nurses, technical assistants, operational assistants, diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, senior health technicians, among others.
